What to Know for the Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Exemption

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The 2022 Florida Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax holiday kicks off this weekend.

During the sales tax exemption period, which runs from Saturday, May 28 through Friday, June 10, qualifying items related to disaster preparedness are exempt from sales tax.

For the first time, Floridians can also purchase pet supplies for their fur babies during the sales tax exemption.

Below is a list of eligible pet supplies:

  • $2 or less
    • Wet pet food (box or bag)
  • $15 or less
    • Cat litter boxes
    • Collapsible or travel food or water bowls
    • Substrate for hamster or rabbit
    • Manual can opener
    • Pet trash bags
  • $20 or less
    • Necklaces
    • leashes
    • muzzles
    • Pet pads
  • $25 or less
    • Cat litter weighing 25 lbs. or less
  • $30 or less
    • Bags of dry pet food weighing 15 lbs. or less
  • $40 or less
  • $100 or less
    • Animal carriers
    • portable kennels

First, make sure you have enough food and water. You should also make sure you have a can opener, flashlight, and plenty of batteries handy.
