TheWrap Appoints LA Times Veteran Oganes Akopyan VP of Marketing and Events

The Wrap News is pleased to announce that Oganes Akopyan, a marketing veteran at the Los Angeles Times, has been named vice president of marketing and events.

In this role, Akopyan will be in charge of all marketing strategy for the Los Angeles-based outlet, including supporting sales targets, determining brand growth as well as leading the premium events portfolio. from TheWrap – from awards season screenings to TheGrill trade conference to Power Women. Summit, the largest annual event for women in entertainment and media.

The hiring comes as TheWrap continues its rapid growth as the premier digital media company spanning Hollywood and its only independent business. The arrival of Akopyan completes TheWrap’s management team. including COO Dan Strauss and Chief Revenue Officer Lynne Segall.

by Akopian his career in marketing and entertainment spans over two decades with successful tenures at the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and Tribune Publishing. Prior to his new leadership role at TheWrap, Oganes served as chief marketing officer at the Los Angeles Times and oversaw the promotion of more than 70 events a year.

He also led a team of marketing managers and designers who worked across departments to plan and launch products. His team drove strategy and insights for sales teams, developed client presentations, created media kits and responded to RFPs to maximize revenue across all categories and platforms.

Prior to joining the Los Angeles Times, Akopyan was Tribune Publishing’s national marketing director in nine US markets, leading marketing initiatives through cross-functional teams. He previously worked at The New York Times’ advertising headquarters in Los Angeles, shaping client events, playing a pivotal role for the sales team and also winning the prestigious Publisher’s Award. Akopyan holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from California State University, Los Angeles.

Akopyan is a lifelong Angeleno native who resides in Burbank with his wife and two children. His all-time favorite movie is “Back to the Future,” the last show he binged was “The Undoing,” and his favorite theater snack is popcorn.
