The second round of tax refund checks for New Mexicans will begin next week

The next round of tax refunds will start hitting bank accounts next week. During the 2022 regular legislative session, lawmakers approved House Bill 163 that provides tax refunds to many New Mexicans. Those who filed taxes and chose direct deposit will see refund checks starting next week. Those who have chosen to have checks mailed can expect them to arrive throughout the month. This series of payments due in July comes with income limits. Single filers must have had income of $75,000 or less on their 2021 tax return to qualify for a $250 refund. Married couples filing jointly must have had less than $150,000 in income on their 2021 tax return to qualify for a $500 refund payment. The New Mexico Department of Taxes and Revenue says paper checks will also begin to be processed and mailed next week. The department says it has a limited capacity in the number of checks it can print per day and has patience to receive your refund. The whole process could take a full month. Non-filers who applied for refunds through the Department of Social Services will also see payments begin to be processed in July as well. This series of checks follows a series of stimulus payments sent out in June. A final round of payments is due to be distributed in August. For more information on discounts, click here.
