Several Italian publications are now reporting that Fiorentina could step up their pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
Lo Celso is considered surplus by Antonio Conte, with the midfielder not even traveling with the Spurs squad for their pre-season trip to South Korea.
Several Spanish outlets, including Mark and AS, reported last week that Villarreal are keen to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal this summer following his impressive loan spell at El Madrigal in the second half of last season.
However, it has been suggested that Unai Emery’s side would need to raise funds through player sales before they can afford the Argentine.
If the latest updates from Italy are to be believed, Fiorentina could now be looking to pounce on Lo Celso.
The print edition of Corriere Dello Sport (07/16/22 – as relayed by sports witness) have claimed that after failing to sign the Tottenham man in January, Fiorentina are now ready to rekindle their interest in the midfielder.
The report adds that the Serie A club are hoping to lower Spurs’ €20m (£17m) asking price for the 26-year-old as the operation is ‘not feasible’ for the Viola at this price.
Fiorentina’s interest in Lo Celso has also been backed by Corriere Fiorentinowho say Vincenzo Italiano are looking to make a ‘big investment’ in the team, and have identified the Spurs star as one of their targets.
Boosts web opinion
Lo Celso’s preference might be to return to Villarreal as he knows he will get game time under Unai Emery. However, given the La Liga club’s financial debts, it’s unclear whether they would be able to afford a deal for the midfielder. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be ready to loan the 26-year-old out on loan next summer.
