Model: Air Force 1 Mid “Panda”
Release date: April 27
To buy: Online at Nike Korea
Editor’s notes: For some, seeing the words “Nike” and “Panda” in the same sentence became something of a trigger. Do not worry; you won’t find anything more about the “Panda” Dunk Low (known as the new Air Force 1) here than this sentence.
If you have an affinity for fluffy, cute, desaturated little bears and feel the need to show that love through your shoes, Nike has created the ultimate sneaker for you.
“Black X6, Phantom…” – no white BMW X6 here, no, just a new Nike Air Force 1 Mid created to celebrate “Culture Day”.
So what is Culture Days? The annual Japanese public holiday is a celebration and promotion of Japanese culture, arts, academia and, by extension, history.
For Culture Days 2022, Nike is turning to the panda, an animal synonymous with the nation of Japan, to create one of its funniest Air Force 1s in recent history.
Designed to mimic the look of the fun creatures, this mid-top silhouette has been dressed in a two-tone fur-like sherpa fleece upper with black suede overlays on the heels, mudguards and collar straps .
Additional details include black leather Swoosh logos on the side waistband, contrasted by jewel Swooshes on the medial side. The pair’s finishing touch can be found on the graphic-printed insoles and outsoles, both of which feature a mix of pandas and Japanese typography.
For panda fans out west, unfortunately, this release appears to be exclusive to Nike’s Korean site (and we’d assume the Japanese as well), so it’s unlikely to be an easy cop.
