JAMMU, Jul 5: BJP Kissan Morcha Chairman Omi Khajuria has expressed concern over the UT government’s decision to reclaim Abhiyana (irrigation tax) from J&K farmers, a practice which as a political issue, was suppressed by the previous BJP coalition government at the time. State.
In a statement released here today, Khajuria appealed to LG, Manoj Sinha, urging him to reconsider the decision as collecting irrigation tax from poor farmers will cause them problems. He said that for political reasons and to come to the aid of farmers in the former state whose crops often fail due to weather hazards such as drought, floods, hail or untimely snowfall, the decision has been taken by the BJP coalition government to abandon the practice of charging water tax to farmers.
He said the decision made by the then political government was a well thought out step as J&K farmers face many difficulties from time to time. Khajuria said that in view of the problems faced by the unfortunate farmers, the government should revoke the decision and grant relief to the farmers from the water tax and instead the government should take action to double their income by 2024, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve their economic situation.
