Jill Biden said Naomi Biden has yet to ask to be married in the White House

Ever since Naomi Biden announced her engagement earlier this month, curious minds have wondered if she might get married in the White House. After all, she’s the eldest granddaughter of President Joe Biden – and her fiancé, Peter Neal, also seems to spend a lot of time with the first family in Washington DC. According to Dr Jill Biden, however, she has not yet applied to be married at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “We haven’t been asked yet,” Dr Biden said The New York Times in a September 19 interview.

Naomi broke the news of her engagement on September 5 in a sweet and simple Instagram post. In the photo, captioned “Forever,” she smiles and leans close to Neal while showing off her ring. She’s been silent on her wedding plans so far, but there’s a good chance the president has a role: Biden is famous for his grandchildren. In an August 2020 interview with PBS NewsHour, Naomi shared that she talks to him every day.

“He will answer our calls no matter where he is,” Naomi said. “He will be on stage, giving a speech, and we would call him and he would say, “What’s wrong? “

Nor would it be unprecedented for a member of the First Family to say “yes” to the White House. Naomi and Neal are said to be the nineteenth couple to marry there, and the first since White House photographer Pete Souza’s 2013 nuptials. Before that, Bill Clinton’s brother-in-law had married in Rose Garden in 1994, and before this, presidential relatives including the daughter of Richard Nixon, the daughter of Lyndon Johnson and the adviser to Franklin Roosevelt have chosen the location of their ceremonies.

That said, many children and grandchildren of presidents choose not to participate in official White House weddings. When Jenna Bush Hager got married in 2008, she decided to have a small private ceremony at her family’s ranch in Texas. “I was raised in Texas and felt great,” she said. Vogue in 2008. “It means a lot to me and Henry [Hager] to be outside. We wanted something organic and discreet.

Naomi and Neal first went official on Instagram in 2018, and since then he’s been by her side at events such as Biden’s 2020 inauguration. According to his Instagram, Neal interned at the House. Blanche during the presidency of Barack Obama, then worked on the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton. Naomi, meanwhile, is a recent graduate of Columbia Law School and in April 2020, she partnered with her now-fiance to create an online tool to help Americans determine their eligibility for relief from the law. CARES.

It wouldn’t be out of place for these two to get married in such a historic location – hey, maybe the president will even officiate the ceremony – but it might be too early to tell just yet.
