No one does a graphic shirt better than WACKO MARIA and few top-notch artists are better suited to an all-over print than Jean-Michel Basquiat, who once again graces a series of WACKO MARIA’s signature Hawaiian shirts.
Basquiat shirts have become a WACKO MARIA tradition over the years, with previous editions launched for Spring/Summer 2020 and 2021still incorporating the late artist’s illustrative paintings into an all-over print.
For WACKO MARIA SS22, Basquiat designs are back and brighter than ever, with three new shirts adorned front to back with artwork by Artestarfrom the Basquiat collection.
Each lightweight, short-sleeved, camp-collar shirt features an all-over printed painting, sure to look even more impressive IRL when they launch on April 30 for ¥38,500 (about $300) each at select WACKO MARIA retailers.
They’ll be in good company with WACKO MARIA’s other seasonal pop culture collabs, which include multimillionaire Bob Dylanlegendary proto-slasher movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacreand legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans.
WACKO MARIA’s signature shirts are arguably the best part of its seasonal collections: the Japanese brand rarely serves up anything too crazy, if not, despite (or perhaps because of) its frequent collaborations with like-minded brands like NANGA and Dickies.
That’s of course great for WACKO MARIA customers, who certainly don’t come to the brand for trendy flexes or adventurous new silhouettes.
The WACKO MARIA fan instead appreciates the dependability of the Japanese brand’s classic blazers, skater coach jackets, leopard-print accessories and crinkle work pants, channeling a 50s greaser with an appreciation for classic movies. horror, hip-hop and jazz.
