Fair Tax Week hosted – Sunderland City Council

Sunderland City Council has confirmed its support for Councils for Fair Tax Reporting as part of Fair Tax Week 2022 (June 11-19).

The council joins other cities, towns and local government district authorities in championing responsible fiscal conduct. Sunderland declared their support for fair tax reporting in early 2021.

He joins authorities across the UK including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Lambeth, Oxford, Greenwich, Exeter, Oldham, Peterborough, Northumberland, Lincoln, Trafford, South Tyneside and Cheshire West and Chester as supporters of a fair taxation.

Leader of Sunderland City Council, Councilor Graeme Miller, said: “As society grapples with the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic – and the challenge it poses to delivering crucial frontline services – everyone must pay its fair share. During Fair Tax Week, it is important to advocate for the positive role that taxation plays in our society.”

Jon Ritchie, Executive Director of Business Services, said: “We are proud to support Sunderland’s statement. It’s great to have Fair Tax Week as a way to bring attention to the need for honesty and transparency in tax matters, for the benefit of everyone.”

Mary Patel, Head of Networks, Fair Tax Foundation, said: “Taxation is so important when compared to the wide range of public services it helps to support – from education, health and services social to flood defence, roads and police.

“Tax Fairness Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate councils that take pride in championing responsible tax conduct. Supporting fair taxation and transparent financial reporting should be clear common ground for all parties as we seek to rebuild, improve and foster transparency.”
