“Dear White People” star Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins marries longtime partner

The actress said ‘Black Love & Black Excellence’ was the set mood for her special day, and everyone in attendance understood the mission.

Actress Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins, star of the popular Netflix series Dear Whites married his 10-year-old partner, a sports agent Darroll jenkins, at the Q Vineyard at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Santa Susanna, Calif. on September 5.

The 33-year-old native of Maryland recently spoke with Vogue to tell the special celebration of black love.

“The vibe for our wedding was ‘Black Love & Black Excellence’, and I really wanted to go for clean and timeless yet dramatic looks for the whole wedding weekend,” said Ashley.

To develop the vision for the event, the couple brought in an event planner. Tricia Smith Brown, owner of TSB Planning and Design, Avant Garden floral studio and bridal stylist Selina howard, owner of Vanglorious Brides.

“The majority of the designers I wore, the salespeople I worked with, and my wedding team were black women, and I couldn’t be more proud of that,” Ashley said. “There was a time when black people were told that we couldn’t get married, so having the wedding of my dreams surrounded by black women supporting and uplifting each other was a moment that I shared in a sacred way with my ancestors. . ”

Ashley walked down the aisle wearing a custom dress with a 10 foot long train designed by Vanglorious Brides, hair vines and earrings from La Vie Bridal and headdresses from Maria Elena Headpieces.

“I knew I wanted to go back to our photos in five, 10, 15 years and see looks that have stood the test of time,” she said.

The day Darroll proposed to Ashley after a horseback ride by the ocean, she said she contacted Mali “Magic” Thomas by Mali Magic Beauty and hairdresser Nicole newland to be her official beauty team.

“We’ve always talked about that moment, so seeing it come to life with them by my side was a dream come true,” said Ashley. “No one glamorizes me like my daughters!”

Darroll brought in the designer and TV producer Davidson Little Brother to create the look of the ceremony and Canadian designer Eaden Myles was recruited to create the reception outfit. Darroll completed his sets with velvet moccasins and a pinky crystal ring, both made by Gucci.

Members of Ashley’s wedding party wore a wine blush color palette against an all-black palette background that wedding guests were required to wear. She said the contrast made the bride stand out and showcase her individuality.

“Everyone understood the mission! ” she said.

Throwing a wedding in the middle of a pandemic has proven to be a challenge at times, said Ashley, adding that the different moving parts made the experience slightly different from the fun and smooth sailing effort she and Darroll had planned. .

“It’s really a ton of budget talk and decision making, but the nice part was it connected us even more as a couple,” Ashley said. “We had a lot of fun making the big decisions and working on the musical elements for the big day. Music is very important to both of us, and we wanted our guests to feel it throughout the wedding. “

She added that all guests were asked to provide a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of the wedding.

On the day of the event, Ashley said that despite being overcome with emotion, she knew she had chosen the right partner to spend the rest of her life with.

“I guess that’s what it’s supposed to feel when you’re with the person God designed just for you,” she said. “I was also secretly panicking because I didn’t have my bouquet, my veil was coming off, and people were looking for my wishbook. In life, you have to be balanced. At the time, I was a little mortified, but looking back, I realize that it makes a great story, and it was perfect because it’s our story.

“We were in seventh heaven,” Ashley added. “It’s really exciting to marry the love of your life!”
