1. Bali

The Indonesian island of Bali is exotic and affordable. For example, a stay in the beautiful Sanur House in the resort town of Sanur can cost as little as $ 46 per night. The fantastic thing about House Sanur? You don’t give up luxury for the price. The hotel offers fine dining and a sweet shop, as well as access to sandy beaches, lush terraces, volcanic mountains, palaces and spiritual sites. If your ideal honeymoon includes a jungle trek followed by a temple visit, Bali may be the right fit for you.

Scheduled six months in advance, a return flight from Chicago to Bali will cost you around $ 750 per person. Former travelers spent an average of $ 18 per day on meals (per person) and just over $ 8 on local transportation.

2. Canada

If you love the outdoors, the Dorothy Motel in the resort town of Banff (in the province of Alberta) is a dream come true.

Nestled beneath the peaks of Mount Rundle and Cascade Mountain, the region encompasses over 4,000 square miles of parkland. Your honeymoon can be spent among wildlife like elk and grizzly bears. Just past the Dorothy Motel are Upper Hot Springs, Tunnel Mountain and Banff Gondola. There is downhill skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding and float tours. Banff Avenue – the main road near the motel – has boutiques, souvenir shops, and enough castle-style buildings to remind you that you are on vacation.

You can book a room at the Dorothy Motel for as little as $ 130 per night, and a return plane ticket from Chicago costs less than $ 400 per person. While you could easily spend $ 150 on a good meal in town, Banff has enough dining options to let you eat for less. The motel offers a Best of Banff discount booklet and free access to the local transit system.

3. Belize

If you are looking for a slice of paradise at a great price, look no further than the Hotel Del Rio on the island of Ambergris Caye. This beachfront hotel offers thatched-roof cabanas and access to a host of activities. You can visit the second largest barrier reef in the world 800 meters away, go diving, snorkeling, fishing or lying on the beach. Restaurants and bars are just a 15-minute walk from the beach.

Room prices start at $ 74 per night, and a round-trip plane ticket to Belize costs around $ 725 per person. Once on the island, you can rent bikes for less than $ 20 per day and spend $ 4-13 for a meal per person.

4. Maine

More interested in a honeymoon in the United States? On the south coast of Maine, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Ogunquit River, lies the town of Ogunquit. In addition to romantic beaches, lighthouses, and coastal views, the city is known for the Ogunquit American Art Museum, teeming with work by Maine artists.

A Deluxe King Room with Balcony and Fireplace at the Ogunquit Hotel and Suites costs less than $ 195 per night, while a King Room costs less than $ 150 per night.

Booked six months in advance, the return plane ticket from Chicago will cost you less than $ 300. The free continental breakfast can lower your meal costs, and if you like to walk, activities like the Ogunquit Playhouse are within two miles.

How to save money on your honeymoon

Planning ahead is one of the best ways to save money on your honeymoon. Here are a few more:

  • Go on a local honeymoon. Google the most romantic places in your state. It is possible that you have never heard of some of them or have never visited them. The ability to drive to your honeymoon is your first saving. The second is your ability to bring things, like that special bottle of champagne you were waiting to open.
  • Use airline miles. If you are planning to fly, start using a travel reward credit card as soon as possible. The sooner you start, the sooner you can book your flight at no cost.
  • Look for discounts. If you’re open to where you want to spend your honeymoon, let the destination with the biggest discounts determine where you go.

The truth is, the only two people that matter are you and your future spouse. Pick a place that looks fun but won’t leave you overwhelmed with debt. If you decide to take out a vacation loan to pay for your post-wedding trip, shop around to find a loan that you can easily afford to pay off as quickly as possible.
